In order to ensure the quality of imported products, the health and safety of Kenyan people and the protection of the environment, they comply with Kenyan technical regulations and mandatory standards or approved equivalent standards. The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS-a statutory body of the Kenyan government responsible for formulating and implementing standards for imported and domestic products in the Kenyan market) implements the Pre-Export Verification of Conformityto Standards (PPoC) program for goods imported into the country. All goods in the PPoC catalog must obtain a Certificate of Conformity (CoC) issued by a KEBS authorized body before shipment.

How to obtain Kenya CoC certification

1. Method: Product testing and inspection Each batch of export goods must undergo product sampling testing or provide recognized laboratory test reports or certificates before shipment, and conduct pre-shipment inspection.

2. Supervision of loading: Starting from September 1, 2016, KEBS requires all goods entering Kenya to be subject to a PVOC certificate issued by the supervision of loading and sealing cabinets before they can be cleared normally. The charging standard is that each cabinet must not exceed RMB 500.

PVOC certification fee standard

1. Inspection/inspection fee

0.5% of the FOB value of the shipped goods, minimum fee: USD250/unit, maximum USD2375/unit

PVOC certification business processing process:

1. CTB customer service personnel provide electronic information packages to customers (including: Kenya PVOC introduction, PVOC application forms (templates), etc.);

2. Customers submit relevant materials (including but not limited to: test reports (see precautions for test report requirements), PVOC application forms, import declaration forms, packing lists, invoices, etc.) to CTB customer service personnel, and make an appointment for inspection and supervision. Time (please make two to three working days in advance);

3. CTB reviews customer information and confirms with the customer the inspection and installation supervision time;

4. The CTB customer service staff will send the charge notice and inspection notice to the customer one working day before the inspection, and inform the customer of the inspector information; the customer needs to return the signed and stamped inspection notice by email on the same day; please send the charge notice back to CTB Finance before issuing the certificate together with the payment slip, so as to arrange billing and certificate mailing matters;

5. CTB inspectors carry out on-site cargo inspection and supervision within the agreed time;

6. If the inspection data needs to be updated, the customer needs to submit the final data to CTB customer service personnel on the day the inspection is completed;

7. After receiving the customer’s final information, the customer service staff will send the draft COC to the customer for verification and confirmation within two working days;

8. After the certificate is confirmed and the money is received, the certificate will be issued in Kenya within about 2-3 working days and the certificate will be mailed in China within 5-7 working days.

Differences between Kenya’s COC certification and PVOC certification:

The full name of COC certification is declaration of conformity, which has different manifestations in different countries. Among them, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, three countries in East Africa, are all called PVOC certification. Therefore Kenya COC Certification = Kenya PVOC Certification.
