The UL2580 standard covers the testing requirements for cells and battery packs. The testing content of UL2580 on energy storage systems includes electrical testing, mechanical testing, environmental testing, and heat spread testing.
The battery pack test items are as follows:
electrical test
1. Overcharge Overcharge
2. Short Circuit
3. Overdischarge Protection
4. Temperature rise
5. Imbalanced Charging
6. Dielectric Voltage Withstand
7. Insulation Resistance
8. Grounding continuity Continuity
Failure of Cooling/Thermal Stability System

2. Salt Spray
3. Immersion in water
4. External Fire Exposure
5. Thermal runaway spread Single Cell Failure Design Tolerance
Battery test items:
There are two appendices for the test of the battery cell: Appendix B The main test items refer to the requirements of IEC standards Appendix D The main test items refer to the requirements of UL1642, and one of the two appendices can be selected.Appendix B
Test items: vibration, impact, drop, squeeze, heating, temperature cycling, external short circuit, overcharge, forced discharge, combustion injectionAppendix D
Test items: Short circuit, overcharge, extrusion, impact, mechanical impact, vibration, heating, temperature cycling, low air pressure, combustion injection
Component requirements:
UL2580 also sets out basic safety design requirements for components in energy storage systems. Its content covers the requirements for the combustion level and UV aging resistance of non-metallic materials, the corrosion resistance of metallic materials, and the insulation requirements of battery casings. It also proposes safety in terms of energy storage management systems, cooling systems and protection line design. Requirements for sexual review.
