Compared to UL2054, UL1642 has a deeper test standard and covers a wider test range to ensure there are no abnormal charging, overcharging, forced discharge, or insulation resistance.
UL2054 is the battery safety assessment standard for household and commercial batteries in the United States, covering both rechargeable and non-rechargeable types. Test standards mainly focus on external short circuits, abnormal and overcharges, forced discharge and molded case thermal testing.
UN/DOT 38.3 is the standard that regulates the safe transportation of lithium and lithium-ion batteries around the world. This is a standard that does not require an independent third-party testing laboratory. Most companies choose to perform this test due to accountability considerations. This standard is to ensure that environmental conditions such as low pressure, temperature cycling, vibration and impact do not put pressure on batteries during transportation. Lithium batteries are dangerous goods. If they are not tested and packaged in accordance with transportation regulations, they may pose safety risks.
