The test highlights and series classifications of UL 4200A are explained as follows:
UL 4200A is recognized and meets standards for evaluating button batteries or consumer products containing button batteries. It complies with UL 4200A assessments, which means that under normal use or misuse, the risk of consumer coin batteries being exposed and accidentally ingested by children is reduced to meet regulatory requirements.
UL 4200A includes evaluations of product structure, labeling, instructions, testing, etc.
All requirements are to reduce the possibility of children coming into contact with and accidentally swallowing button batteries. The test is designed to simulate the product life cycle after multiple button battery replacements. Under normal use conditions, or under certain accidental circumstances (drop, extrusion, impact, plastic shell aging, etc.), the requirements can still be met.
UL 4200A structural requirements:
1). User-replaceable button battery products: must meet the requirements of Chapters 5.3-5.6 of the standard.
2)。Users cannot replace button battery products: they must comply with the requirements of Chapter 5.7 of the standard.
UL4200A test: (Testing is required whether or not users are allowed to replace button batteries.)
1) Test the samples in the following order:
6.2.1A: Stress Relief Test: The maximum temperature rise of the plastic enclosure measured in the heat test is +10 degrees or 70 degrees Min. 7 hours.
6.2.1B: Battery replacement test: Open/lock the cover and replace the battery for 10 cycles. Refer to 60065 Table 20 for driver torque. This test is crucial for products such as laptops or tablets because the minimum torque to loosen/lock the metal screws with the head is 0.4Nm. Many laptops use M2 screws or even smaller. After the second loosening/locking cycle, the screw head slipped and could not be locked. However, in this case, 10 cycles still need to be completed.
6.3.2: Drop test: 3 times for portable equipment and 10 times for handheld products.
6.3.3: Impact test: 3 times, 2J.
6.3.4: Extrusion test: Apply a force of 330+/-5N to a 100X250mm area for 10s.
6.3.4A: Torque test: 0.5 Nm when the child’s thumb + index finger or teeth can grasp the battery cover.
6.3.4B: Pull test: When the child’s thumb + index finger or teeth can grasp the battery cover, the pulling force is 72N.
6.3.4C: Compression test: The battery cover can be reached by children, but children will not be dropped by it. The downforce is 136N.
6.3.5: Conformity test: After test 6.3.2 6.3.4B, apply a force of 50+ 10N for 10 seconds with unarticulated fingers, and do not touch the button battery. 6.4 Safety test: The button battery is non-replaceable, the battery fixing method complies with 5.7B, the battery is contacted through 5.3/5.4, the test hook is 20+/-2N, 10 s.

UL 4200A Series Classification:
The report can include a series of models. For sample selection or comprehensive testing, the following factors need to be considered:
1)。The main factors affecting the mechanical structure and test results of the enclosure: product size, enclosure thickness, weight, enclosure locking method, and screw type, size and button cell fixing method, the secondary source of plastic enclosure.
2)。Coin battery types: Coin battery types are different, such as CR2032 and CR2025. Due to the different thicknesses, the product structure and button battery fixing method need to be checked to decide whether to test one or both.
3)。When the laboratory’s judgment is different from that of the customer, the customer can designate a test group, and the laboratory is responsible for testing and testing samples.
