In China the corresponding standard is GB 4706.10, whilst the European version is EN 60335-2-32. Any massage product with a heating function must additionally satisfy the clauses relating to temperature rise and overheat protection.

2. Structural Strength and Mechanical Hazards

Massage heads, securing straps and the outer casing must not loosen or fracture under repeated loading, and moving parts must be guarded against trapping. Ningbo Xuntong Standard recommends that manufacturers carry out fatigue-life testing on massage-head joints and tensile verification on flexible straps, so as to avoid mid-life failure that could cause personal injury or consumer complaints. Addressing these points early keeps the product compliant throughout its service life.

3. Temperature Rise and Overheat Protection

For heated massage appliances, the surface and internal temperatures must remain within the specified limits under both normal and abnormal conditions; should the thermostat fail, the thermal cut-out must interrupt the circuit reliably. Many low-cost products raise the set temperature to pursue a stronger “warm compress” sensation, only to be judged as overheating during abnormal testing. Setting a sensible upper limit for the heat setting is the key to balancing user experience with safety.

4. Water Resistance and Electrical Isolation

Some massage appliances are marketed as washable or for use in bathroom settings, in which case the requirements for ingress protection and electrical isolation rise markedly. Even for ordinary domestic models, sweat exposure and cleaning scenarios still call for a basic level of protection.
