On July 28, 2022, the National Health Commission issued the mandatory national standard GB 4806.8-2022 “National Food Safety Standard for Food Contact Paper and Paperboard Materials and Products” for food contact. The standard will be officially implemented from June 30, 2023.
　　

This standard is a revised version. Compared with the old standard (GB 4806.8-2016), the potassium permanganate consumption indicator has been deleted in the revised standard, because lignin, total sugar and other substances in paper products are potassium permanganate consumption. The main source of contribution to this indicator is that these natural substances will not cause harm to the human body. The sensory indicator requirements have been revised so that discoloring of paper and cardboard without bleaching and without added colorants is not considered abnormal coloring. Based on the risk assessment results, the residue indicators of 1,3-dichloro-2-propanol (migration limit shall not be detected, DL=2ug/L) and 3-chloro-12-propanediol (migration limit 12ug/L) in paper products were added.
