What types of batteries can be tested for UN38.3
Lithium-ion battery/battery core
Lithium-ion batteries usually use lithium alloy metal oxides as the anode material, graphite as the cathode material, and use a rechargeable nonaqueous electrolyte.
In the market, the main test target of the UN38.3 standard is lithium-ion batteries, which mainly includes the following two types of uses:
The first is lithium batteries for digital products, including mobile phones, notebooks, tablets, Bluetooth headsets, digital cameras, portable power supplies, etc.

The second is power lithium batteries, which are used in electric vehicles by car companies such as Tesla and BYD. Electric bicycles, unmanned aerial vehicles and other high-power products also use power lithium batteries, which require high instantaneous current. Batteries used in digital products cannot meet large fast currents, so lithium batteries are also called high-strength batteries.

Lithium metal battery/battery pack
Lithium metal batteries usually use manganese dioxide as the anode material, lithium metal or its alloy metal as the cathode material, and utilize a nonaqueous electrolyte solution, which is non-chargeable.
Although lithium metal batteries have a high energy density, theoretically reaching 3,860 watts/kg, they are unstable and cannot be charged, so they cannot be reused as a battery.

What is the difference between lithium batteries and lithium batteries?

Lithium batteries are mainly composed of cathode materials, anode materials, electrolytes, separators and shells.
Relatively speaking, the size of the battery cell is smaller than that of the battery. Cells are semi-finished products and cannot be used alone, but there are exceptions: sometimes, individual lithium cells are packaged directly into batteries. The most common type is the 18650 lithium battery, but only if its discharge circuit has a protective mechanism. If there is no protection, users need to pay attention to safety when using such batteries.

The lithium battery is mainly composed of two parts: a battery cell and a protective board PCM(generally known as a battery management system BMS in the field of power batteries). The protective board is mainly composed of a protective chip (or management chip), MOS tube, resistor, capacitor, and PCB board.
In short, the battery cell is equivalent to the heart of a lithium battery, and the battery management system is equivalent to the brain of a lithium battery.
