On December 13, 2023, Helsinki time, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) Forum disclosed an EU-wide law enforcement statistics. The report showed that there were problems of excessive harmful substances in commercially available products.

1. Data

This law enforcement mainly examines product compliance with the REACH Restricted Substances List, POPs regulations, toys and RoHS Directive. The competent authorities of 26 EU member states participated in this verification, and the data are as follows:

√EEA refers to European Economic Area, or European Economic Area.

√ The report pointed out that most of the products from regions outside the EEA come from China, and it also suspects that most of the products from unknown regions also come from China. Based on this suspicion, about 90% of substandard products are produced in China.

2. Implementation measures

During this inspection, law enforcement agencies took enforcement measures such as sanctions, fines or criminal complaints against 434 non-compliant products and related parties. Many suggestions were also made for responsible persons, ECHA and committees, member state law enforcement agencies (NEAs), and forums.
