On March 20, the Korea Institute of Technology and Standards issued a 2023-0027 announcement, releasing a new standard for energy storage batteries KC62619.
Compared with the 2019 version of KC62619, the changes in the new version mainly include the following aspects:
·Alignment of term definitions with international standards;
·The scope of application has been expanded, mobile energy storage equipment has been included in the control, and it has been clearly pointed out that portable outdoor energy storage power is also within the scope; the scope of application has been revised to more than 500Wh and less than 300kWh;
·Section 5.6.2 supplements requirements for battery system design;
·Increase system lock requirements;
·Increase EMC requirements;
·Add a heat spread test procedure that triggers thermal runaway through laser triggering.
Compared with the international standard IEC 62619:2022, the differences of the new version of KC 62619 are reflected in:
·Coverage: In the international standard, the scope of application is industrial batteries; while KC 62619:2022 clarifies that its scope applies to energy storage batteries, and clarifies that mobile/fixed energy storage batteries, camping power supplies, and mobile electric vehicle chargers belong to the standard scope;
·Sample quantity requirements: In Article 6.2, the IEC standard requires R (R is 1 or more) for the number of samples; while in the new version of KC62619, 3 samples are required for each test of the battery cell, and 1 sample is required for the battery system;
·The new version of KC62619 adds Appendix E content to refine the evaluation method for battery systems below 5kWh.
The announcement will take effect from the date of publication, and the old version of the KC 62619 standard will be abolished one year after the effective date of the announcement.
